OUGD504 - Design for Print: Print Finishes

We had a session on print finishes, and here are my notes:

Coating

UV coating

  • Glass, wood and plastic can be coated
  • Can be applied on spot locations or flood on page

Coated and Uncoated Paper

  • Coated has a shimmery surface and is smooth
  • Uncoated is matt with a rough finish and is grainier

Die cut

  • Used to generate large numbers of material
  • A way of making a hole in a shape

Embossing

  • Embossing pushes paper up
  • Debossing pushes paper down

Foil Stamping

  • A heated die is pressed onto the paper
