OUGD503 - Responsive: BEAR - Testing

Once we had designed everything, we printed out the components and slots to make sure everything fit and had the right proportions. This was the day before we went to print.

I printed them out in the Mac suite, and Sarah had some cartonboard, which we mounted the designs onto.

Then we started cutting them out with scissors to see if it was easy for a kid to use, and with a scalpel to be more precise and quicker.
We came across a couple of problems:

  • The slots needed to be as thick as the stock so needed to be widened
  • The Birch tree and Bear didn't stand up, so needed bigger slots
  • The slot on the tree stump needed to be shortened

I took some photos of the camping scene which all worked perfectly.

We then wrote down a list of what needed to be done, so we could split them as we were fast approaching the printing deadline. I have highlighted what I said I would do.

  • Thicken the width of the slots so they are the same
  • Shorten the Tree Stump slot
  • Put all components on one document
  • Design the R is for Rivers sign
  • Add bodycopy to Rivers
  • Change slots for Birch tree and Bear
  • Add an outline to the Salmon and Bear
  • Shorten the Owl slot in the Birch Tree

Here are some examples of the thickened slots
