OUGD504 - Design for Print/Web Peer Review

In a group of seven, we are going to discuss our Design for Print projects, and get feedback from them.

Our group consists of:
  • Sarah
  • Tristan
  • Vicki
  • Rinesh
  • Lizzy
  • Issy
We have decided to allocate each person 10 minutes to discuss their projects, and five minutes for feedback.

Vicki
  • Print book for dummies
  • Full of straight forward tips
  • Playful, still getting point across
  • quick processes
  • Humorous tone of voice

  • Album artwork that features typography/photo manipulation
  • Geometric artwork

Tristan
  • Print process book for LCA
  • Infopack of different print methods/printers in leeds
  • Preparing work for print
  • Include all print methods
  • Each method explained
  • Section what time/how to book sessions

Feedback
  • Could be good idea to do different formats like calendar, app, address book, different stocks you need for methods (such as laercutting materials, lino, newsprint etc)
  • Maybe do separate books for each process so its not too big
  • Good to look at preparing work for print as its difficult to know and not many people are in the know about it

Sarah
  • As many print processes as possible
  • Be interactive and fun
  • Print enthusiasts and students, and crafty people
  • Pass the parcel concept
  • Keepsake idea
  • Never ending parcel - endless possibilities

Feedback
  • Pattern could be print/present illustrations
  • Look at other gift books/packs to see their function and content
  • Could just say when it could be used, facts etc
  • Could have outer package in different processes, and inside could be never ending packs in individual processes
Issy
  • Publication
  • Essential for beginners
  • Digitally print publication
  • Laserprint in it
  • Series of books
  • Printing/finishes etc
  • Comprehensive
Feedback
  • Could have pull out posters
Lizzy
  • Lasercutting
  • Pop up book
  • Example form
  • Visual
  • Aimed at students
  • Inserts
Feedback
  • Look at instructional pop up books in library
  • Go to Waterstones to see pop up books
  • Could have pull outs
  • Maybe focus audience more so you know what processes to include
Rinesh
  • Foiling, lasercut, embossing, screen, digital
  • Educate
  • Why they're good/why they're not
  • Infographic
  • Posters
  • Glow in dark, Colour changing inks etc
Feedback
  • Outer packaging/envelope/bellyband of book could be in colour changing, UV inks etc

When I explained my concept for Design for Print the feedback I got was:
  • Could do foiling in negative space, rather than the text
  • Could have information on the destination icon
  • Could be given to students at beginning of the year
  • Could have scratchcard effect on ticket
  • Appropriate primary research to establish your concept through the survey
  • Look at golden tickets
  • Tone of voice?
